My laptop battery has died a few weeks ago, so I removed it and I continued using my Dell XPS 13 with no issues. Everything worked like a charm, so I didn’t hurry to buy a new battery. Today, I got notified of a new firmware security update and I decided to install it right away, but, apparently, you can’t update your Dell laptop firmware if you have no battery attached. Blocking important security updates on a perfectly capable hardware is just beyond stupid, but I guess that would be less of an issue if Dell batteries lasted for more than a couple of years.
