I’ve been using WireGuard for many years, and I’m pretty happy with it. Apparently, there are quite a few projects which are trying to wrap WireGuard in some fancy GUI to make it more appealing for non-tech-savvy users. Among those services, Tailscale seems to be the most hyped up, so I decided to give it a go.

Long story short: I am not amused. Not only did it take more time and hassle to set up, but it also required a third-party auth provider. Maybe there is some value for enterprise users, but it’s hard to justify its existence as a part of my self-hosted infrastructure.
