The Issue With A2 SD Cards

November 16, 2019  |  Flash Storage

Keep in mind that A2 SD card manufacturers aren’t always fully honest in their marketing. They can promise blazing‑fast speeds, but that performance is far from guaranteed. The problem is that A2 isn’t as “self‑contained” as A1 and its speed depends heavily on the host device.

Many newer hardware and software components simply aren’t ready to utilize the A2 standard. For instance, there are no measurable benefits to using an A2 card on a Raspberry Pi 4, despite the board and its OS being just a few months old. You could easily end up overpaying for performance you’ll never actually get. Here’s more on the issue.
